Supporting children and young people in a home from home environment.
We have a number of Children’s Residential Homes across the Sunderland and Durham area which we hope to expand across the region. Our homes are all registered with Ofsted and we offer weekly, termly and 52 week residential placements according to the needs of the child. Every child is different, in our homes they can settle into a pattern and routine which works best for them and for their families.

  • We have acknowledged the importance of the physical and sensory aspects of the environment when designing our homes for children with autism, we have considered spatial awareness and sensory issues.
  • By adapting our environments to meet the needs of children helps improve the quality of life of children and is known to reduce daily stress.
  • Residential and teaching staff are in regular close contact with each child and young person to make sure there is consistency and continuity of care.
  • There is a high staff to child ratio and each residence has waking night staff.
  • Each child and young person stays in a personalised bedroom.

Most of our children attend our schools in Sunderland and Durham however we also provide residential accommodation for children who attend their own local education authority schools. Our care and education staff work together to provide a 24-hour programme of development, particularly in social skills, communication, behaviour and leisure. This consistent, structured approach helps the children to feel secure in both the home and school environment and to grow in self confidence.

The majority of the children and young people in residence are placed under Section 20 of The Children Act 1989. This means that they are voluntarily placed by their parents who retain full responsibility for their son or daughter.

Every child is set targets for achievement in all areas of their life and these are regularly reviewed by both residential and educational staff.
All the children who live with us are treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to feel positive about themselves. They take part in a wide variety of activities and life experiences and are encouraged to make decisions and choices in what they do.

Ultimately, for every child who lives with us, our aim is the same. We want them to be happy, relaxed and enjoy life to the full.
