16 - 19 years.

At 16 years, our pupils begin the tertiary phase of their education at Thornhill Park.

Our main aim, at this stage, is to encourage independence and prepare students for adult life. Here, as throughout the school, we work at the best pace for each individual, using the methods most suited to their needs. So, for example, we use the TEACCH approach for students who need more structured leaning.

At the tertiary stage many of our students follow the EQUALS Post 16 ‘Moving On curriculum. www.equals.co.uk

Others, who may be able to follow GCSE courses, enrol at the local FE College and are supported by a member of our staff. Here our students will follow specialised courses such as CLAIT Diplomas or media studies according to their personal interests.

As with all our services, the emphasis for each individual is on the development of a personalised programme which will best suit their needs and their personal learning goals. This September we are introducing a new skills based curriculum for the SECAS groups. (Specialist Education College for young people with able autism and Asperger Syndrome) Students will be able to develop a personalised curriculum, selecting the subjects they most wish to study.

Hydrotherapy, massage therapy and yoga sessions are available for specific students. All students are offered regular speech and language therapy sessions.
