Residential Care
Thornhill Park School is unique in the North East because we are able to offer year round residential care for children with autism.
We offer weekly, termly and 52 week residential placements according to the needs of the child. Every child is different, and at Thornhill Park they can settle into the pattern and routine which works best for them and for their families.
The majority of the children and young people in residence are placed under Section 20 of The Children Act 1989. This means that they are voluntarily placed by their parents who retain full responsibility for their son or daughter.
Our care and education staff work together to provide a 24-hour programme of development, particularly in social skills, communication, behaviour and leisure. This consistent, structured approach helps the children to feel secure in both the home and school environment and to grow in self confidence.
Our care staff aim to provide a continuum of care and support which will develop each student’s independence. Every child is set targets for achievement in all areas of their life and these are regularly reviewed by both residential and educational staff.
All the children who live with us are treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to feel positive about themselves. They take part in a wide variety of activities and life experiences and are encouraged to make decisions and choices in what they do.
Ultimately, for every child who lives with us, our aim is the same. We want them to be happy, relaxed and enjoying life to the full.
Case Study:
“I have total faith in everyone who is looking after my son. And that means the world to me.”
