Residential Care
We offer a number of small, family style homes for adults who would benefit from a residential placement, Each house is home for between three and six residents and all are within walking distance of the college and of Sunderland City Centre.
We are proud of the high quality of our residential accommodation. All our houses have been carefully planned and furnished to create an environment which is comfortable and welcoming for the people who live there.
We offer a range of different accommodation to take account of the needs of all learners and residents, from those who need high levels of support, to those who are able to take increasing responsibility for their budget and daily living needs. All residential placements are 52 weeks per year.
Our residents benefit from a 24 hour programme which supports their personal development at all times. It has been well documented that people with autism can experience difficulties with transferring skills to different environments. Our 24 hour programme provides continuity and routine. A consistent approach to home, work and social life helps to break down the barriers between these ‘different worlds.’
We place great emphasis on enjoying life as part of the community. So every learner has the opportunity to access a wide variety of leisure and social facilities in our local community.
Helping to wash up, going for a swim or a visit to the local pub – everything we do provides opportunities to develop essential life skills. So, within each learner’s personal plan, every social and domestic activity is assessed and planned to help him or her continue to work towards individual objectives in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
